Alumni Netzwerktreffen "Imagining post-war Syria"

Wir bitten um Anmeldung bis zum 24.11.2018

Invitation to the inaugural MPS Alumni social mixer

The MPS Alumni club is delighted to invite you to our inaugural MPS Alumni social mixer. This year, we are introducing this new format to foster new engagement and connection among MPS Alumnis and the Alumni Club. The mixer will include a “fishbowl” conversation, led by Alumna Ruham Hawash[1] (16/17), entitled “Imagining post-war Syria: Possibilities and Challenges in SDF-controlled areas”.

The conversation will then be followed by a short reception with light refreshments.

The “fishbowl” format

To facilitate the flow of ideas among the speakers as well as the audience, we’ve opted for a “fishbowl” format for the conversation. In this format, the guest speakers sit in a circle of chairs and the audience sits in concentric circles around them. The speakers are then asked to talk to each other by answering a series of directed questions. In an open fishbowl, one chair is left empty and audience members can rotate through, adding their take on the topic.[2]

The topic

Thematically, the speakers will discuss the future of the territory in north eastern Syrian controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) as the war winds down. Are SDF actions to be viewed through the lens of survival or ambition? What are these ambitions and do they set them on a collision course with Assad? And what role do the great powers play in the resolution of this possible conflict?

Time and Date

The mixer will take place on Saturday, 1 Dec 2018, at 16:00 at the IFSH. Please let us know if you will be able to attend by 24th November 2018 through this Doodle tool: https://doodle.com/poll/gak8swbth9qkziy4

16:00-16:30                 Registration and coffee

16:30-18:00                 “Fishbowl” conversation
